Description
(GRON-9960-03)
South of the Groning shoal, situated safely behind the sea dike is the town Pieterburen. Within a stone throw is the old farm 'Zijlbrugge'. From the farm, you overlook the landed estates with a broad horizon. The Westernielandstermaar, (a rivulet) winding along the farm. A walk over the beautiful boulevard is surely worth it. Bring along your fishing rod as well, you can try to catch many fish from the boulevard, in the meanwhile with a beautiful view over the opposite side. Or a cycling trip over the many cycling paths, which the surrounding is rich in. You will then notice, that you are in a practically authentic and untouched culture landscape, where the agriculture still dominates. Beautiful farms are alternated with outstretched fields with the most extensive crops. Another option is the treading of the biggest nature area of the Netherlands: the shoal. You will hear and see birds everywhere. And with some luck, you will see in the distance over a dry sand bar the seals drying their pelts in the sun. If not, then you have not treaded this area at all, because Pieterburen is the seal creche.
